All Saints Sing Along

Isnʼt That Amazing Grace (Identity) To Brennan Manning and Henri Nouwen

1. Underneath the countenance of God we all try to hide. We forget how he loves us so, we forget weʼre Abbaʼs child. So when the lies are loud, let the gospel drown them out.

Chorus: Come out, sinner, from those shadows, Every corner of your shame. Donʼt you know youʼre his beloved? You donʼt have to hide your face. Isnʼt that amazing grace?

2. But there are other voices in our hearts. Theyʼre imposters in disguise. And they tell us we canʼt trust his love- that on our selves we must rely. But when the lies are loud, let the gospel drown them out.

Bridge: Donʼt believe the lies. Youʼre beloved, Abbaʼs child. No more guilt and shame, ʻcause isnʼt that amazing grace?

GUIDE ME O THOU…

1 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand;
bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.

2 Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through;
strong deliverer, strong deliverer.
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.

3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death, and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side;
songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.

CHRIST IS ALIVE

1. Christ is alive! Let Christians sing.
His cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring.
His love in death shall never die.

3. Not throned above, remotely high,
untouched, unmoved by human pains,
but daily, in the midst of life,
our Savior with the Father reigns.

4. In every insult, rift, and war
where color, scorn or wealth divide,
he suffers still, yet loves the more,
and lives, though ever crucified.

5. Christ is alive! His Spirit burns
through this and every future age,
till all creation lives and learns
his joy, his justice, love, and praise.

Available Now: The Early Years | Remastered B-Sides & Demos Vol. 1

Newly Remastered Recordings of My Demos and B-Sides from 1999-2004

Available Now Wherever You Get Music

I’m really grateful to my friend, Brandon Shattuck, who recently remastered a bunch of old recordings from the About A Boy project and my Debut (Josh Bales) project.

If you’re new to my music (in the past ten years), these twenty or so songs will be new to you! They are no-frills demos- limited production up-close recording quality and, now, remastered for balance and up-to-date levels that fit with streaming services.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. It addresses one of the most frequent emails I get from you: “Josh, where can I listen to your first two albums? Are they available online?” So, I’m really excited to get these songs back up and available to you.

They will be released in January 2024 and February 2024 as TWO volumes with about ten songs each. Vol. 1 is a collection of pop oriented songs and Vol. 2 is a collection of Christian/Gospel material.

Volume 1 is set to release on my birthday, January 29th, with a preorder date of January 12th on iTunes. These will be available where ever you get your music these days.

A Podcast Interview Part 1 | What Inspired The Weight of Glory EP?

Shane Morris has a fantastic podcast called Upstream where he interviews folks like Os Guinness, Frederica Matthewes-Green, Hans Boersma, and Jeremy Begbie. Check it out!

In this episode Shane and I talk about the people and ideas that inspired the songwriting for The Weight of Glory EP (Fall 2023).

This Friday 5/19 in Indianapolis

This coming Friday night, May 19th 2023, I’ll be sharing music at 9pm in the JW Marriott in Indianapolis. This event will come at the end of the day’s events for the Earth Crammed With Heaven conference put on by the Colson Center. You can find more information here.

I promise this won’t be a long-winded, end-of-the-night, thing. I’ll just help us all process the teaching and fellowship we’ve enjoyed that day with some together songs and also some of the new songs to be released on The Weight of Glory EP later this Summer. By the way, if you have a question you’d like me to address about songwriting, or therapy, or liturgy, or a song you’d like me to play, use the Peanut Gallery form below and I’ll do my best!

See you there! - Josh
